Queensland Lions Clubs says thanks for donations

LAST week Nowra Lions Club held a short and sharp clothing drive to help flood victims in Queensland.

As Lions district governor Beverley Bates comforted evacuees in a basketball stadium in the Lockyer Valley, she was clearly emotional.

“We will never be able to fully express our thanks for what the Nowra Lions Club has done,” she said.

“What a wonderful effort – I was absolutely amazed.”

When Nowra Lions Club president Bob Wright first contacted Mrs Bates, he thought the club could send 100 cartons of clothes within a few days.

“Then when 280 cartons arrived I couldn’t believe it” Mrs Bates said.

Lions in Australia

Lions Clubs in Australia has a proud history of many years community service. Starting with one Lions Club in Lismore NSW in 1947, it has now grown to almost 1400 Clubs covering every state and territory in Australia.

Each Lions Club is responsible for it's own affairs and the projects it participates in, decided upon by the members know as Lions eg, Lion Bill.

Why am I a Lion

Recently, as a Lion and partner of the DGE 201Q3, I went to a Youth Insearch Camp at Lions Camp Duckadang

There I saw some wonderful counsellors trying to assist some very troubled young people.

They were backed up by some very dedicated Lions and volunteers providing the food and accommodation for these beautiful kids.

These kids have problems that we would not be able to survive, but they do – they are incredible as are their helpers.

I was so proud to be a Lion, and to stand behind our motto of ‘We Serve’,
